Shell recruits FMC for Stones

Shell has contracted FMC Technologies to supply subsea equipment for its 100%-operated Stones field development in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The contract’s scope includes the supply of eight subsea trees, a subsea manifold, topside, and subsea controls and associated equipment.

"Deepwater operations in the Gulf of Mexico require advanced capabilities and innovative solutions," FMC Technologies' Senior VP, Subsea Technologies, Tore Halvorsen. "FMC Technologies is pleased to be able to work with Shell to deliver the technologies they need to develop these fields."

Stones is an ultra-deepwater project encompassing eight Walker Ridge blocks in the Gulf of Mexico’s Lower Tertiary geologic trend, approximately 200 mi (322 km) off Louisiana in about 9,600 ft (2,926 m) of water. The field was first discovered in 2005.

The development will start with two subsea production wells tied back to the FPSO vessel, followed later by six additional production wells.  This first phase of development is expected to have annual peak production of 50,000 boe/d from more than 250 million boe of recoverable resources.  The Stones field is estimated to contain over 2 billion boe in place.

First production is targeted by 2016.
