Unasys, the North East England-based technology and project management provider to the energy and construction sectors, has signed a four million dollar contract with Technip US for Statoil’s Aasta Hansteen platform.
As well as ePM, the Unasys project management CMS system, Middlesbrough-based Unasys has provided specialist staff, worldwide, to support clients in managing project close-out and commissioning, as well as creating opportunities at a local level through recruitment and training of local people.
This is another major contract for Unasys and follows on from the recently-completed offshore platforms engineered and fabricated in Texas, USA as part of the Castor Underground Gas Storage facility, which is located in Spain.
The Aasta Hansteen project will use the expertise and knowledge of Unasys for the mechanical completion and commissioning phases of the project, with the definition in Houston, followed by execution works in Korea and offshore Norway.
Unasys will be providing the specialist staff for the spar section of the project.
The Aasta Hansteen gas field is located above the Arctic Circle, roughly 186 miles (300 kilometres) from land in 4,265 feet (1,300 metres) of water in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
Statoil serves as the operator, holding a 75% interest; OMV holds 15%; and ConocoPhillips holds the remaining 10% interest.
Unasys, which is a member of UK business development organisation, NOF Energy, provides hook-up, commissioning and completions services. For over a decade Unasys has delivered its specialist services to manage the complexities of project start-up and close out.
Since 2000 it has supported clients with the skills they need to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
Michael Flynn, Unasys Director said: “I am pleased to announce that Unasys will be working with Technip USA on the Aasta Hansteen project. This is a major project and shows that Unasys are firmly established in this sector.
The success of the bid was down to both the experience of the Unasys network, many of which have worked on similar oil and gas projects throughout the world in the past 25 years, in addition to working alongside NOF Energy in establishing routes and connections into new markets and projects”.
Joanne Leng MBE, Deputy Chief Executive of NOF Energy, said: “This is a marvellous opportunity for Unasys and demonstrates the company’s growing reputation for technology-led engineering solutions. It also highlights the benefits of engaging with new markets, which Unasys have so successfully done by utilising the services and support provided by NOF Energy.”
