Tenaris announced it will invest $70 million to build a new sucker rods mill with a production capacity of 1,800,000 units per year, in order to reduce lead times and improve service for customers in the growing North American market. It will be built alongside Tenaris’s welded tubes mill in Conroe, Texas and start-up is planned for the second semester of 2014.
The new mill will include non-destructive testing (NDT), forging lines, heat treatment and threading and finishing processes, a coupling shop and centralizer line. A high level of automation in the operations will improve efficiency and reduce production times. The investment will create 200 new jobs once the mill is fully operational and the state-of-the-art facility will be designed to uphold the highest industry standards for quality and HSE
“We are committed to enhancing our service and strengthening our local supply for oil and gas companies throughout North America,” said Alejandro Levrino, Tenaris Sucker Rods director. “This project will be executed based on our vast experienceof nearly 45 years in sucker rods manufacturing.”
Currently the company has sucker rods production facilities in Argentina, Brazil, Romania, and Mexico. With this investment, Tenaris will increase its annual production capacity in sucker rods to cover 4 million units consolidating its position as a major global manufacturer. It will produce Tenaris’s wide range of proprietary products, including BlueRod premium sucker rods, the HolloRod Series and X-Torque rods, as well as the entire range of API sucker rods for beam pumping and progressive cavity pumping.
