Fires and explosions a growing liability concern

Oil and natural gas industry operations managers, health and safety managers, as well as plant and facility superintendents and engineers face increasing liability issues created by fires and explosions, according to a white paper released by Scorpion Protective Coatings Inc., based in Cloverdale, IN.

“As the domestic petroleum industry grows so does the liability risk for oil and natural gas production companies," states Clayton Tomasino, president of Scorpion Protective Coatings.  “A growing workforce means an increase in job related injuries and fatalities. Direct and indirect costs can be staggering. Many injuries and fatalities are due to fires and explosions caused by static electricity. To decrease risk, steps need to be taken to mitigate the danger.”

To help oil and gas industry professionals learn more about reducing the hazard and the subsequent liability of fire and explosion, Scorpion Protective Coatings offers their white paper “Mitigating Fire and Explosion Liability in the Oil and Gas Industry.”

“The report discusses the regulatory and liability issues faced by the evolved oil and gas industry, and delves into avoidance of fire and explosion liability issues created by static electricity,"continues Tomasino. “Ultimately, the report enables the reader to identify the static electricity dangers that exist within oil and gas facilities, and subsequently offers static electricity mitigation tactics. We take great interest in helping to educate the oil and gas industry about the dangers of static electricity, and how they can be reduced.”
