Shell has awarded Subsea 7 a $135 million contract for work on its Fram oil and gas development in the central North Sea.

Subsea 7 will handle the engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of a 4.5km in-field pipeline bundle measuring 44-inches in diameter, with integrated manifolds and tie-in structures.

The company’s Vice President UK and Canada, Steph McNeill, said it expects to employ 300 workers in Scotland during the project’s peak. Subsea 7’s Aberdeen office will handle project management and engineering work. Offshore work will be completed in 2014.

The UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change approved Shell’s Fram development plans in October. Shell has leased an FPSO from SBM Offshore to develop the field.

The Fram field is located 220km east of Aberdeen in water depths of 100m.
