Dutch sector package deal

Just as its current workload was drawing to a close, the HSM Offshore yard picked up a substantial construction contract from GDF Suez E&P Nederland for the operator's Dutch sector L5 and D18 projects. Tenders included three (two x 1200te, one x 1800te) topsides plus jackets, three 300te power modules and one 300te compression module.

HSM's share of the booty is the L5a-D topsides and jacket (1200te apiece), plus the D18a-A topsides again 1200te. This is a full AFC (approved for construction) package, with HSM Offshore procurement manager Edwin Prinse describing it is a very well worked out package and saying he anticipates a smooth ride. IV Oil & Gas in Papendrecht is carrying out the engineering under a separate contract from GDF Suez.

Prinse is also optimistic about picking up more work in the near future. There are a number of tenders in the oil & gas and renewables sectors on the go at the moment and we are busy juggling prospects like a jigsaw, he says.

A wellhead platform for EOG Resources UK's Conwy field in the East Irish Sea (topsides 850te, jacket 700te, piles 700te) sailed away from the yard in May and was installed in the field using the Matador 3 sheer leg crane at the end of the month (OE June). Through this not permanently attended installation (NPAI), two Conwy production wells, one Corfe production well (Corfe and Conwy are neighbouring fields) as well as one Conwy water injection well will be drilled by the jackup drilling rig ENSCO 80.

The Conwy platform will be tied back to the BHP Billiton-operated Douglas platform via a new 8in production pipeline, a new 8in water injection pipeline and a new power/control/chemical injection umbilical.

Modifications to this Douglas platform entail completion of a 270te hang-off module (HOM), which will house a produced water treatment skid, a production separator, two super heaters, a pig trap and a hydraulic power unit. This module is also manufactured by HSM Offshore and will be installed early spring 2013.

For Talisman Energy UK, the Schiedam yard was awarded the contract for the construction of a 1250t compression module to be installed on the upper deck of the Claymore platform, in a position vacated by the previously relocated living quarters. The module will contain a single 100% compressor train to replace the existing three 50% trains currently in operation. It will house a turbine driven compressor package along with first stage suction, interstage and discharge heat exchangers, first and second stage suction scrubbers, condensate transfer pumps, air compressor package, N2 generator, fuel gas skid and local equipment room. Installation is scheduled again for early spring 2013.

Another HOM, for Total E&P Nederland, is on schedule for completion at the end of this month for the K4-Z subsea completion tie-in on K5-A. The 65te HOM contains a start-up gas heater and ESDVs, while a transportable tanks access platform for K5-A is also included in HSM's scope.

On the renewables front, HSM loaded out the 2200te Thornton Bank offshore high voltage transformer station in March. This was a sub-contract from C-Power's main contractor ABB. A number of other wind energy projects are being tendered at the moment, but Prinse says that HSM has decided to concentrate on the higher value end of the market, the OHVS (offshore high voltage stations), rather than the wind turbine foundations.

HSM is also busy on the civil side. In October it will start erecting the main span of the Dalsfjord suspension bridge in Norway, following the fabrication of 11 bridge sections, each 48m in length. The 2280te bridge, the fifth to be built by the yard for Norwegian clients, will be handed over to Statens Vegvesen Regio Vest in July 2013. For the petrochemical and process market, HSM is also receiving inquiries for relatively small modular packages at around the 50te mark, which Prinse says can be completely built and pre-commissioned at the yard, avoiding the complicated permitting process.
