German offshore foundations manufacturer Steelwind Nordenham has received an order from YunNeng/wpd for its 640MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) in Taiwan.

The order is for 40 monopiles, as well as 120 segments for Formosa Heavy Industries (FHI), said a press note from the fabrication specialist and subsidiary of the Dillinger Group.

FHI will use the segments to fabricate a further 40 monopiles at Mailiao in Taiwan to satisfy localisation requirements for the wind farm.

Following its selection as the preferred supplier in December 2018, Steelwind Nordenham received the firm order from YunNeng/wpd-Taiwan at the end of May 2019, the release said.

Steelwind Nordenham said the work will start next month and continue until June 2020.

"We are extremely satisfied that we have got this order. It is very encouraging that we are now able to supply monopiles 'beyond XXL' with diameter up to 10 m and unit weight up to nearly 2000 tonnes,” said Dr.Ralf Hubo, Managing Director of Steelwind.

The project will feature local monopile fabrication by FHI Corporation, Mailiao, Taiwan. Localization requirements in Taiwan will be satisfied by this.

Yunlin is an Offshore Wind Farm 8 km in front of western Taiwanese Coastline, with 80 Siemens Gamesa Renewables 8 MW Turbines (from Cuxhaven).
