Underwater inspection provider Welaptega said it has appointed a new general manager for its global business.

Tyler de Gier has been promoted to the role from within the company and will be based in the company’s headquarters in Halifax, Canada. The appointment is of an internationpart al growth strategy for the business and follows the acquisition of the company by global subsea equipment and solutions specialist, Ashtead Technology, in November 2018.

de Gier will oversee the day-to-day running of Welaptega, applying the group strategy and growing the business globally, with the support of Ashtead Technology. He holds a B.Eng in mechanical engineering and during an extensive career with Welaptega has held business development, engineering and project management roles.

He previously worked for the Canada-Nova Scotia offshore oil & gas regulator (CNSOPB), where he was advisor – offshore installations and safety officer, specializing in production asset integrity management, decommissioning, and regulatory and standards development.

de Gier said, “The acquisition by Ashtead Technology has given us the opportunity to invest in R&D, further develop our state-of-the-art inspection technology, and expand our international presence to provide a local service delivery to our clients.”

The announcement of a new general manager for the business follows two further strategic appointments by Welaptega of business development managers in the UK and US. The appointments mark the first time Welaptega has had a presence in these energy hubs and have been made in direct response to industry need.

Jonathan Miller is based in Ashtead Technology’s Houston office and Kyle MacInnis has relocated from Welaptega’s headquarters in Halifax to Aberdeen in the UK. Both are tasked with implementing and managing business growth and are supported with locally based equipment and service personnel.
