Windhoist UK, the wind turbine erection company, have now successfully completed all Pre-assembly operations at Hornsea 1, the world’s largest offshore wind power plant to date, comprising of 174 x Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 offshore wind turbines.
"Windhoist have demonstrated how a lengthy track record of executing onshore cranage and installation contracts has been utilized to great effect within the offshore sector, with all turbines being handed over on schedule, with zero safety incidents with 99% achieving Zero Snag status," said a press release from the company.
To achieve this, Windhoist invested in additional crane hardware which included the purchase of an LR1750-SX, which solidifies the companies’ clear strategy to maintain its position as one of a very select few suppliers that possess the required hardware to execute large scale pre-assembly contracts.
Alongside the crane package, a 120 strong workforce comprising Project, Site, QHSE management, plus technician teams worked together to ensure yet another flagship project was delivered safely and on time to Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE).
Ryan Burke, Windhoist Project Manager said: “With the success of Beatrice and now Hornsea 1 it leaves no doubt over our ability to undertake the largest multi-scope C&I contracts within the offshore sector, and this is aided by the strength of the working relationship we have with SGRE who remain a key customer to our business. We now aim to undertake similar contracts on a wider European and global basis, in line with our long-established onshore services and to further develop our collaboration with SGRE in the offshore market”.
Hervé Bouraima, Global Commodity Manager, Strategic Procurement, Offshore for SGRE noted: “In the space of 18 months one of our key onshore C&I suppliers has adapted and further developed their capabilities to also become a key provider for our expanding offshore project portfolio. This is true testament to the benefits of the long term working relationship that has been developed between our companies.”
