Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has selected Vineyard Wind’s 804-megawatt (MW) Park City project as the winner in a major offshore wind solicitation, setting up the seaport city of Bridgeport to become a significant hub for the emerging U.S. market.

“Today’s announcement takes Connecticut one step closer to being the epicenter of the new offshore wind industry, with thriving ports in both Bridgeport and New London. We look forward to building on the work already underway with a network of project partners, local officials, the maritime community, other developers, and all stakeholders involved to make Connecticut a hub for the offshore wind industry in the United States for decades to come,” Pedersen added.
The project is expected to go online in 2025 based on DEEP’s announcement and includes an estimated $890 million in direct economic development in Connecticut, including Bridgeport Harbor and the local supply chain.
Vineyard Wind is a joint venture of Avangrid Renewables, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Incwhich is majority owned by Iberdrola S.A., and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) each of which own 50 percent of Vineyard Wind.
Vineyard won the first major U.S. offshore wind solicitation last year in Massachusetts, an 800-megawatt project sited south of Martha's Vineyard.
