The Yeti exploration well is located in Walker Ridge Block 160, approximately 15km south of Chevron’s Big Foot field, and 11km from the Cascade field. It is in about 5890ft of water and drilled to a total vertical depth of 25,575ft.
The well tested a Miocene, sub-salt, three-way closure and according to Statoil, Yeti expands the proven sub-salt Miocene play further south and west of Big Foot.
The joint venture is analyzing data to determine the size of the discovery in order to consider further appraisal options.
Yeti was drilled with the Maersk Developer semisubmersible. Statoil says that its drilling efficiency with Yeti was among the best of any well drilled in Walker Ridge, achieving a rate of approximately 123m (400ft) per day.
The rig has moved on and is currently drilling Statoil’s Thorvald prospect in the Mississippi Canyon Block 814.
According to joint venture partner Anadarko’s 4Q 2014 report, Yeti was in late 2014. Yeti is about 20mi away from Anadarko’s Heidelberg, which is on track for first oil in mid-2016 with 200-400 MMboe gross resources.
Statoil is the operator of Yeti with 50% interest. Partners include Anadarko (37.5%) and Samson (12.5%).
